Looks like tomorrow a Federal election will be called for April 28th.  We don't spend two years campaining here.

Since Carney took over as the Liberal leader (thus becoming Prime Minister), the Liberals have increased in the polls and the Conservatives have slummped. Conservative leader Poilievre has been using Trumps playbook for a couple years now and with everything going on people don't have much faith in him.

Carney is also the former Bank of Canada Governor and also former Bank of England Governor, so he knows finances at the inernational level very well.

I forget what the time frame was but I saw a before/after image on reddit and it was like, "Oh *that's* what crazy conservatives can do? Yeah, maybe a liberal isn't so bad."

If you can't be a good example at least be horrible warning

all the conservatives have is the childish trump style name calling. its so pathetic.

So you're saying we shouldn't go with "Pompous Pierre"?

Trumps shutting down the sept of education, but tbf, it doesn't seem like a good portion of the voters were making much use of it anyways.

Ironically, they are/were. DOEd has very little to do with actual instruction, that's at the state level despite what the talking heads say, but has TONS to do with funding for special education programs. Lots of low-income parents of neurodivergent kids having a leopards ate my face moment right now.

Either he's totally complicit and loyal to the elite class (entirely possible but I still have a sliver of hope that we're not THAT far gone as a country…yet) and he knows that if the Dems dig their heels it the government will be shut down for weeks, if not months, because MAGA will never back down.

It's the whole "when they go low, we go high" bull****. Taking the high road only works when there are consequences for taking the low road.

Dems are going to vote with MAGA to eliminate Medicare instead of shutting down the government tomorrow. What else is gonna go sideways this week? furious

 What?!

Schumer (Senate minority leader) said he's going to vote to advance the budget and is encouraging other Dems to do that same to "minimize the harms to the American people".

I honestly don't know what version of the bill we're on at this point, if it's an actual budget or just a continuing resolution (extends previous budget to allow more time to complete the full budget) but it's not like the current budget matters anyway.

Does he really think there’s any way to minimize the damage trump is doing by capitulating to him?

Holy ****show. I’ve never seen anything like that despicable display in the Oval Office today. He’s gong to hand Ukraine to Putin on a silver platter.

That has got to be one of the most embarrassing moments in American history.

I went hiking yesterday and came home to this being the top headline on everything. Can't bring myself to watch it (I can't even stand to listen to sound bites of him on news podcasts) but yay USA.

And I hear that we're booing the Canadian anthem now because "I know you are but what am I?" or something like that. disbelief

So…I'm seeing a lot of "why aren't you guys fighting back, just look at what they're doing in Europe!" from Canadians (or bots claiming to be Canadian, who the hell knows at this point).

Serious question, if there was something protest-worthy in Canadian would you really expect to see people skipping work and traveling from Yellowknife, Vancouver, Saskatoon, Halifax, and St. Johns to converge on Parliament Hill in Ottawa?

Yes, there is a very high level of apathy in the US, no doubt. I feel like a lot of people are forgetting/underestimating the sheer size of the country. The two nearest protests on Feb-5 were 100+ miles away from me.

And for the vast majority of people, essentially forfeiting your income and health insurance to protest, let alone participate in a general strike, is asking a lot. Especially when lawmakers have proposed bills making it legal to hit protesters with your car, we have a history of vigilantes (and cops) targeting, and even killing, protestors, and there's a legitimate fear of being doxxed by the federal government.

I have a red line, I just can't define it at this point. Maybe I'm just hypocritically living out the the "They Came For" poem, I can't tell.

In all seriousness, you may want to browse Canadian real estate sites. He and elonia are taking your country apart, and not slowly.

How easy is it to just immigrate though? And some of y'all (not present company y'all) REALLY do not like any of us to the south.

Not like I could afford Canadian real estate any more than I can afford US real estate. hmm

Only took a month, he’s already calling himself a king. knew that was his goal but the speed with which he got there is impressive.
