We were lucky too. Had power intermittently. On enough to keep the house reasonably warm. But the other side of the street was out for almost a week. People carrying generators up and down the street so people could run their furnaces for a while.
I was lucky, my block was the only one on my street that still had power. There was a massive tree down across one end, and a power pole across the other, so you couldn't get in or out of the block at all for about a week, but we had power and heat, so we were very lucky.
That storm made international news. My dad's relatives called from overseas wondering if we were ok. I was like, "uh... Winnipeg is a little far from Montreal"
Do you guys realize tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of The Ice Storm?
1998? It was probably 60 degrees Fahrenheit where I was, what happened?
haha.... google 'ice storm 1998'
most of souteastern ontario and western quebec were coated with ice, some areas were without power for weeks... it was brutal
Yep. I moved to Maine and now have Blizzard warnings with all the ice from the 12/23 storm still in the trees. I’m expecting to lose power for a while.
