 electric or gas heat?  nothing near baseboard heaters if any?

 Got any neighbours with different food interests?

hot water heat

 

no baseboards anywhere near the area where the smell is coming from, although the furnace is nearby.  It's not running at the moment, I'll try turning it back on during the intermission to see if the smell comes back. 

 

As for neighbours.... that's my biggest suspicion right now is that it's coming from someone else's place.... I just don't wanna smell it!
