Two things…one, it will be interesting to see if the SSB is boo'd in more CAN arenas. On reddit at least, your compatriots seem pretty unified in being anti-American right now. If y'all do boo, I could see this prompting discussions about doing anthems int he first place. (Personally, I think it's icky performative patriotism that should be saved for international tournaments only.

Second, and this is a serious question…do you think American tourists will be welcome in Canada in the near future? I declined the work-sponsored trip this year (for travel distance and not-my-cup-of-tea options) and my boss said I could pick my own thing and "we'll see what we can do" so I was planning to finally pull the trigger on a road trip to Banff or Waterton. Don't really want to be a target with US plates.

CGY crowd not as loud with their disapproval, and waited until the end. Also did NOT have the abrupt volume shift to OC that OTT did.

Albertans were the biggest Trump supporters pre-elevtion, now I honestly don't know.  They probably still blame Trudau for everything.

Honsest question. What's the point of the Senate and Crongress anymore with all these executive orders and SCOTUS likely to just also sit and watch.

Yeah, AB being the TX/FL of Canada *did* cross my mind. It's entirely possible they'll hate me for bring a librul Washingtonian instead.

The constitution and government were structured with the assumption it would always be made up of relatively sane people. (I certainly hope the founding fathers didn't expect SCOTUS nominees to literally perjure themselves.) The "good" thing about EOs is they are easy-peasy to undo by the next guy. At least on paper, the downstream effects could take considerable effort to correct.

T-e-c-h-n-i-c-a-l-l-y EOs can't doing anything that spends money or changes existing Congressional-approved funding. (But without enforcement who knows.) While there's nothing Congress can do to obstruct EOs they *can* hold up future bills in a tit-for-tat situation. That said, Dems usually take the high road. They fold to MAGA demands to avoid shutting down the government. We'll have to see if they take that same high road in March when the current Continuing Resolution expires. (For those who haven't watched The West Wing one, why haven't you?!, and two, we are technically operating without a budget right now. We can extend the previous budget until reaching an agreement, that's what a CR is.)

and, it didnt take long for him to set up the first constitutional challenge, the birth right thing. supreme court will say no, so he'll move to amend the constitution and his lackies will be too afraid to stand up to him. after that, there's no stopping him.

Leopards Ate My Face on reddit is a wealth of schadenfreude: newly-hired (but not yet onboarded) Fed employees who have already moved their families have their offers rescinded; moved-when-they-went-remote Fed employees not understanding how they'll RTO; people suffering from rare diseases having the NIH research paused.

BUT! Eggs prices should come down now that the FDA isn't forbidden from communicating with the public, so recalls won't happen. Winning!

Recalls cost money, which is passed on to the consumer, so if you stop testing for salmonella there is no salmonella, so prices will come down (or profit will go up). Whose to say which way companies will lean towards.  /S

Ha, unfortunate typo…the FDA ****IS**** forbidden from communicating.

Salmonella doesn't scare me, I eat cookie dough.

I need some Canadian > American English translation on this one:

"Was not going to vote Liberal under Trudeau but I bit the bullet today and registered/ volunteered for the Liberals assuming Carney will win the leadership race. Anyone else planning to do the same?" from reddit

Is this the equivalent of "I didn't like the candidate so I'm was going change parties (or not vote at all)"?

Because that's what it kinda sounds like and, holy ****, have y'all not been paying attention to what that gets you?! (looking at the account it may be a troll but it made it to the front page)

Yup, that's what it is.  Ontario re-elected the Conservatives and Doug Ford in 2022 winning 83 of 124 seats with only about 18% of eligible voters voting for them.

Eligible voter turn out was only 44%. A record low turn out, previous low record was 48% in 2011.

You know how everything was Biden's fault (economy, price of groceries, gas, houses, rent, etc...). Well in Canada that was all Trudeau's fault. I guess both of them snuck into grocery stores at night and set the price on everything.

I was throughly afraid that's what it meant, because I knew (loosely) there was a lot of "current party ruined my life" sentiment. But, **** people, can we stop living out the "hold day beer" meme in real life?!
