 Signing bonuses like that greatly help the player in non state tax states like Colorado. When he plays in California and New York he’s not taxed on the bonus only salary

 What's crazy is he's right at the top of being the best player in the NHL if he was in baseball that would be 35-40M (Mike Trout) yearly. NBA would be 50M (Steph Curry and Damion Lillard) and an NFL QB (Aaron Rodgers) would be 50M yearly. Shows how the NHL's TV deals are so far behind the other 3. Kylian Mbappe of Paris St. Germaine makes 50M in futbol.

Chara, aged 45, announced his retirement today.  He signed a 1 day contract to retire as a Bruin.

Subban aged 33, also announced his retirement today.
