True story: I met his sister Vicki, who was Wayne's GF at the time, in Edmonton when I was 15-ish. She was singing in a band when I was out there for a school band competition.
where the hell are the leafs getting the cap space to sign all these players?
Not only the laffs. All these teams that are signing players to big contracts. And all we hear is that so many teams are up against the cap.
You live in a town with a team with absolutely no money so you're forgiven for not realizing there are other teams out there that will pay money for good players to try and win. You're team is more concerned w getting to a salary floor with contracts that have less money owed to the players than what the salary cap hit is. #MelnykOut

Dale Hawerchuk just lost his battle with cancer. Super sad. He was 57
The first NHL game I went to was in the 87-88 season at the Forum in LA and I saw Hawerchuk RandyCarlyle and our boy Paul MacLean play for the Jets. I had no idea who anyone was on the ice since they looked like NFL players on skates to me. This was the year before Gretzky got there.
I felt bad that the guy who crosschecked him to the face only got one game for putting another teams top player out of the game in a broad sense. But since it was Gallagher I got over that feeling
I think Dean Brown said it best today: “he was a superstar, but playing in a time with Wayne Gretzky next door made it seem ordinary.”
Dale was up there with Mike Bossy and Mario at the time in terms of points and talent.
While I didn't like him when he was a leaf, he was one of the most entertaining players to ever play in the NHL. Some of the the old Habs - Leafs games with he and John Ferguson going at it were classics. I remember one game where Ferguson chased him around the ice 2 or 3 times trying to catch him. RIP Eddie.

Have you guys been following Bettman about the restarting the season and then playing a full playoff? The idea is floating around that they'll all play at one or two central locations and have like 3 games a day.
The NHL seems hell bent on finishing the season, even to the point that I think but not sure someone like Bill Daly said even if a person or two comes down w the virus they won't stop. I put all my faith in people in positions of power and ask what could go wrong?
