For conduct "inconsistent with the values of the Ottawa Senators" = he wanted Eug to invest in the on and off-ice product.

Hogberg has gone back to Sweden for family reasons. The Sens recalled Filip Gustavsson.

It's not that people don't want it either - I know a few years ago there was at least one local buyer. Who knows 🤷‍♀️

Good return for Pageau and I wish him all the best.

However, I still feel anxious about the future of NHL hockey in Ottawa.

They've pretty much doused the thing in gasoline and handed matches to the fans.  All to cry foul to the NHL when it eventually blows up.

You think Keith is not watching this mess and already prepping Brady for a contract holdout to force a trade?

I've said it before but i have no reason at this point to think that 5-6 years down the road, when all these high picks and successful prospects hit their prime and want big money, the wheel will simply start turning again. Simply because I don't believe euge has the money to sustain a top nhl team. Now, if a new, rich owner comes in, everything changes. until then, i'm jaded.

Well said. As long as Uncle Euge is there, I spy problems off the port bow. I guess that's just the way the big wheel spins.

unfortunately you both are right. As long as that cheap sociopath a**hole is around keep a sharp eye off the port bow

I'm holding out on that slim glimmer of hope that this is the perfect time to sell the team.

Team is relatively stripped of long term commitments and has a wide open roster with room to maneuver.

If the reporting is true that the team is balking at signing JGP at ~$5M per for 5 years then pretty much abandon just trade everyone over 25 and bluechip RFA that may want a big second contract.

The team has a bunch of wild cards for center depth.

White - rough sophomore season and has potential to rebound.  But I'm amazed at the mental gymnastics of fan discussion that claim White as a complete bust, and then use him as a solid depth piece to let JGP go.  If he bombs next year, buy him out for 1/3 contract value.

Tierney is going to cost close to $4M per on a short term deal, is not a long term piece, and should be traded.

L. Brown hasn't shown he's a bonafide middle C full time NHLer yet and is likely not going to warrant a huge contract off his ELC for the 2021 season.

Norris has been looking great in the AHL, but he needs two monster seasons in the NHL to need a massive deal when his ELC is up in 2022.

Pinto - looks good in NCAA, but still may not sign an ELC at the end of the season.  The earliest he may need a second contract is 2023 if he signs this year.

2020 1st round pick - ELC ends in 2023.

Upcoming RFAs not discussed above - Tkachuk (2021), Thomson (2022), Brannstrom (2022), Wolanin (2021), Balcers (2020)

Outside of Tkachuk are there any significant deals to come from those?  All will likely be on low AAV 2-3 year bridge deals.

Even as a budget floor team, this team has the space (in the roster, salary, and cap space) to overpay JGP by $0.5M and 1 year too long) to mentor and shield the kids in a rebuild and won't be a huge anchor for the final 2 years 2023-2025 when a number of RFAs will likely be on bridge deals.
