Was it David Samson? I listen to his podcast and he didn’t even know who it was going to be. (He was an executive in Montreal front office)

Team was losing money and Canadian owners didn't want to fund losses, so American guy did and ended up increased his ownership to over 90%. He made a deal with the league to buy the Marlins.
