Unfortunately I think the Bruins are going to go big and pick up a couple of good players before the trade deadline. Will make it harder for Sens to catch them. But Hawks may steal a couple of the guys Bruins want.
Also, heard at least one team is interested in Neil but not offering much. That team could be Vancouver. They could use Neil in the playoffs.

I'm watching the hated Devils vs the damned Bruins and was going to rail on the Devils for losing to the team the Sens are chasing and before I could do that the Devils just overcame a 2 goal deficit in 2 minutes. It's 2-2 and it's GO Devils!!

Looks like we dodged a bullet..
They did go hard after him I remember, then they made the Ryan trade after that "disappointment" I believe. That guy has went into the tank harder than Edmonton or Buffalo have ever dreamed of....

I have to give credit where it's due: that's a pretty amazing move by Nonis to pull that one off. They're going to be spending them money anyway, but this way they get rid of a player they don't want, will pay another to sit and be quiet, and put a 3rd player on the ice in the hope that he's part of the rebuild.
Impressive. Most impressive.
And Nonis will still probably be fired at some point this year.
it was brilliant by Toronto, they have all the money in the world in a NHL sense and they get the 5.3M off their books on the LTI list. No other team has this type of resources. Columbus gets a somewhat useful 4th liner when they were getting nothing from Horton or ever would and now no one will complain about Clarkson's salary anymore. So he wins too. Everyone wins but all the other fans of the NHL
And any team that can't afford to eat bad contracts. So when is a cap not really a cap?

Columbus trades Horton to Leafs for Clarkson straight up because they didn't insure Horton's contract.
That's some downright shady cap circumvention there.
Alright new plan.
We are now rooting for Clarkson to be a perennial 30G scorer.
I'm banking on it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this triggers a new trend of trading injured players for "cap space circumvention".
Karma would be if in a couple years, Toronto is back at cap limit, Horton makes a recovery and cleared to play, thus coming off the LTIR and starts counting against the cap.

I don't think that Nonis was the brains behind this. I doubt he had inside information that Horton's contract wasn't insured. This had to come from the Columbus side. "You scratch my back, I'll scratch your"
It's a win-win for both sides for different reasons.
Clarkson was drowning in Toronto, maybe he'll be able to turn it around in Columbus.
No worries with Toronto gaining $5M in cap space though, they'll just throw it away at another player "that will fix everything" Someone like Brad Richards for $30M over 5-6 years.
Rumors from the media hint that Columbus dreamed this up and approached the Leafs.
Best part is Columbus just gave them enough rope to hang themselves in free agency by opening the cap space to sign Mike Green to 6 years / $38 million this offseason, Versteeg to 5 years / $37.2 million in 2016, and O'Reilly to 8 years /$65 million with a full NMC in 2016

one thing u can say about NHL bottom feeding teams and their players is they never ever tank, the execs may tank by sitting guys or not, but the players that hit the ice never try to lose.
