Go Isles indeed!
The Penguins are again playing with only 5D due to cap issues. Let me get this straight: they fired Shero, who seemed to be able to get at least one or two top end pending UFAs each trade deadline and made space for them, and hired Rutherford who now seems to be unable to ice a full team due to poor cap management?
Rutherford living off that Cup run for the rest of his life I guess? He was so smart in that Cup run that wasn't MartinGerber or some such non-entity Goalie their starter till in desperation they turned to an unknown CamWard? Point is Rutherford wasn't an upgrade

Lafs bringing up Colton Orr for last game of season. I guess they want to go out in style. The losers that they are.

It hasn't quite sunken in for me yet, as the jets lost their game last night in a shoot-out, but still made it in. We haven't had playoff NHL hockey since the mid 90s.

Calgary wins and puts the Flames and Jets into the playoffs. Good for Canada.

From what I have gathered, Katz wanted to force not a sale of the team, but a liquidation of assets to pay the debt. Sell stuff off to get the money piecemeal rather than from a sale of the team as a complete entity.
The Oilers tried to sue via court in Pennsylvania but that was dismissed, so Katz created an Ontario-based company to try and liquidate assets of the team to get the $4.6M owing to him for a failed deal to buy the team. The bankruptcy move is to protect the team as a whole (protection from creditors) while the owner tries to sell the whole thing (has been trying for a while).

The Erie Otters, Connor McDavid's team, is filing for bankruptcy.
Apparently the story is that in 2011, through Ontario Major Junior Hockey Corporation (OMJHC), Oilers owner Daryl Kat loaned Sherry Bassin millions of dollars to help cover team expenses. Katz now wants to collect that money and force Bassin to sell the team to raise the money owed.
I don't know, something just seems shady over this whole thing.
Kardinal, you follow the juniors probably more than any of us, have you heard anything about this mess?

PK Subban gets another fine for diving, this time for $3K, which I believe is the first time the league has applied a second tier fine for diving as he got a $2K find in January for diving as well.
