Doug Wilson of SanJose does it again. He gives up a First round pick next season which if this team is as crappy as they look from here will be another top 10 pick to Boston for Martin Jones the LAKings backup last season goalie. Martin Jones's numbers were not good playing in front of a defense first team. Wilson must have pictures of SeppBlatter the German owner of the SJSharks.

Plus the whole thing with Thornton is a mess. What player would want to sign there as a FA. It would have to be their last choice. Looks like he is trying to take Milbury's crown away for the worst GM of all time.

As for LAK "terminating" Mike Richards -- I hope they've got their ducks in a row on this one, or it's going to turn into a big litigation mess.
OxyContin will not be enough to terminate a contract especially with Donald Fehr fighting for you

Just saw on Twitter that MartinJones signed a 3 year extension at 9M from Sharks. You see how quick a bad GM can ruin a franchise

It seems we're going to see a round of buyouts ahead of free agent frenzy. These players have been put on waivers for the purposes of being bought out:
MTL : PA Parenteau
LAK: Mike Richards
ANA: Mark Fistric
Rick Clune has already cleared waivers for the Predators, so he's already ready to go. Who's next?
Also............the Pronger trade. Your thoughts? I thought that TML moving Clarkson for Horton was the biggest "buying cap / cap relief" I was going to see. I was wrong.

The city of Glendale has cancelled their lease and management agreement with the Coyotes.
The Coyotes say they will sue.
Meanwhile, speculation is rampant about where the team will play next season and beyond. Back in their old home in Phoenix (home of the Suns) while a new arena is built there? Portland? Seattle? Vegas? Quebec City?
I can't see the team moving to QC as that would further imbalance the east-west divisions. I saw one idea that the team would move to QC but still play the Arizona schedule, and while Winnipeg dod it for a year as they were only one time zone different from Atlanta I can't see it working with the distances and two time zone differences that would be in play in this scenario. Imagine 3-in-4-day situations that were Dallas-Arizona(QC)-LA? Oy!
the price for average defensemen just went way way up.... Petry with Montreal just signed for 33M over 6 years which is the same cap hit as Duncan Keith only one of the all time best defensemen in the NHL gets. Sens got Methot signed at the right time I guess and we all know Erik Karlsson is way way way way way way way underpaid compared to Petry.
That's just insane.
That contract is leafishly stupid.

Dan Bylsma is the new coach in BUF, so it looks like Luke Richardson will be staying in Bingo (at least for now).
Bylsma's new contract is reported to be 5 years at $3-3.5M, much like Todd McLellan's in CGY. I guess the "Babclock" factor is working.

A brilliant article by James Mirtle on how/why tanking isn't necessary to build/rebuild a team, using both TBL and NYR as examples. It's well worth the read:
Looks like the Oilers are hiring Peter Chiarelli "to oversee all hockey operations"
President of Hockey Operations AND GM. Big changes in Oilerville.

Did you guys see this little piece of drivel? Good thing there's no biased report at SNET....
Wow. Just wow. This is the same idiot that said last night that the Sens were easy to hate because they were cheap shot artists and divers. This, this is nothing more than trying to make a name for yourself by spewing out the most outrageous crap pissible.
This is what he ****ted last night:
"Man, the Sens are easy to dislike. Cheap shot on Subban, MacArthur celebrates like he won the Stanley Cup."
The single, most obvious troll ever. This guy gets paid to be a journalist.
I saw that. Pretty ridiculous stuff. Doesn't even ATTEMPT to be neutral.
he's a talk show host who I don't believe claims to be a journalist, maybe because he's not for sure. He sure the hell never claims to be neutral from the couple of times I've heard his podcast. He's a goof from what I've read and heard
I really liked this line:
which will result in a generational player – Connor McDavid – wasting the early stages of his career in Edmonton.
That's just gold. In Edmonton at least he's surrounded by talented hockey players on a team that's further along in the rebuild than Toronto is. It'd be the Laffs where he'd waste his time.
I'd really like to know how much he got paid for just this article. I'm sure I could write a few on that level for half the price. And what about this gem:
There is a softening in this marketplace that I’m not certain will withstand a long rebuild without a transformative figure like McDavid.
Boo hoo. Who cares about that market place. Let's all just see how much it can withstand. Let it really suck for another few years. Let the fans stay away and the franchise being 'appreciated' for the crap it really is. With all the 'bankrolling the NHL' crap. That's their problem, they couldn't manage to ice a competent team by bankrolling to the cap year after year. So now what, the surplus of their money went to the rest of the league, therefore they 'deserved' a top pick?
At least I'm happy they didn't win it, not so much because they're the stinkin' Laffs, but now I kinda know it was a real lottery and not just a huge conspiracy. Not that I trust the league much, but I'd have to give 'em this.
Professional sports is about entertainment and marketing and money and TV and such. Fairness sometimes sucks. Connor McDavid should be a Maple Leaf, and everyone knows it – including McDavid himself.
All this entitlement and suggesting things are 'directed' and manipulated... Blech... Why not give the Leafs a few points extra here and there so they at least could make the playoffs. Oh noes, then they wouldn't be able to draft high in this strong draft. I know money rules the world, and therefore if there's one team that didn't deserve McDavid it is exactly those Leafs.
