Not to be outdone by the Leafs, the Habs sign Alex "Bongo Drum Fighter" Semin to a 1yr / $1.1M deal.
I can't make up stuff funnier than what is going on these days. What next?

Didn't NJ also have players sign elsewhere then come back to NJ? So we may again see Phill Kessel in a leaf jersey again. that is after he scores a couple 50 goal seasons in Pittsburgh and they trade a bank load of players and picks to get him back....

Unexpected doesn't cover this....it's a shock, to say the least.
Shanahan: inexperienced NHL exec
hires:
- a lot of "numbers guys" and junior hockey knowledge (with some NHL time in Hunter)
- a big name, headstrong, big ego coach in Mike Babclock
- a big name, headstrong, big ego GM in Lamoreillo
This doesn't seem to be a recipe that looks like it will 'blend until smooth' to me. More like clash until implosion.
Should buy some Orville Redenbacher stock. This is going to be entertaining.

There are still two teams below the cap: NJD and NAS (ARI and FLA are now above the cap thanks to trading for non-playing players with big salary cap hits, namely Pronger and Savard).

OMG!! that was hilarious. Thanks Kardinal for finding that gem. Well worth the 4-5 minutes of time. That's Keith Olbermann of ESPN who never has held his tongue on bashing anything he's been with ESPN for 25+ years off and on.
Does he always have the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (BWV 565) in the background when he does these bits?
I'm sorry to see that he and ESPN are parting company at the end of the month. I hope he lands somewhere, as this particular bit is great.

Personally I think that the Toronto media have been doing a great job at fueling LeafNations hunger for having their team under a microscope.
Keep up the good work, keep the pressure on these players and keep throwing fuel on the fire. That's the best way to attract grade A free agent talent and the best way to develop good young players.

Because he is who he is, I'm betting theres an agreement in place to avoid deportation. Just like he'll get special clearance to enter Canada to work.

doubt he'll be deported. probably part of the plea bargain. i hear he may have to do 90 days though.
CSI: L.A. Kings.
90 days plus 3 years probation - and I think the deportation thing is still under discussion.
Either way... this should FINALLY mean the end of this piece of scum's NHL career.
Not so fast Kat, saw on Twitter he may only do 45 days because of good behavior and other such nonsense. Our justice system is as terrible as the Canadian system when it comes to creeps like that child molester Graham James. These guys are savages and predators and they don't get what they deserve.

"Shanahan asked his team to show him their character; they turned in one of the worst performances in recent NHL history, ultimately winning 11 of their final 51 games."
This is from a story by James Mirtle about Kessel trade, and this paragraph above was after Carlyle was fired.
3 of those 11 were against Ottawa I do believe and that's galling. I mean come on if not last season and the couple of seasons ahead when is Ottawa going to beat up on those Losers?
