Lemaire was an assistant to Bab**** at VANOC, so they've worked together before but only with a team of superstars, not a team of plugs, castoffs, leftover/untradeables and raw recruits. It'll be interesting to see how the "Detroit puck possession" model clashes with the "NJ/MIN neutral zone trap" model.

So first the lafs dump their only scorer and then hire Lamoriello and now Lemaire. I assume they hope to win all their games 1-0. Only flaw with this plan is they don't have a real goaltender. Should be a real exciting year in blue slime land.

So the NHLPA filed a grievance on behalf of Mike Richards against LA and the termination of his contract.
Richards' cap hit was $5.75M, does that mean the LA will need to keep that much space available in case they lose the grievance or will quickly need to shed salary should Richards win the grievance?
As this is an unheard of situatio, my guess is no and they can continue as is. This is good for the PA as well as another player or two will get an nhl contract & the PA will receive more in fees.
I hope Richard's wins his case and Kings have to pay him. While I have never liked the guy, I love it when these teams give these guys ridiculous long term expensive contracts and it comes back to bite them in the ass.

with Donald Fehr as the head of the PA there is no way LA is not paying Richards in my opinion.

Yeah, I have far less of an issue with MacT still being around the league considering that he did plead guilty, did serve his time... was released from his contract with the Bruins, etc.... than I have with the way that so many other criminal offences seem to get swept under the rug by all of the major leagues.

EA Sports has dropped Kane from the cover of NHL 2016. He was to appear with Toews, who will now appear alone on the cover hoisting the cup.
The case is still in it's investigation phase, but NHL 2016 is set to be released Sept 15th and can't wait and see what the outcome will be.

Damn, I didnt know that. Pretty serious stuff, did he go to prison for that?
Yes, he did. Convicted of vehicular manslaughter, but only spent one year in prison. Wasn't considered quite as serious of an offence back, then.
One year for an unpremeditated death is still a lot especially for a famous personality it seems to me. Still he went to be a head coach and GM that's sorta amazing.

Depending on where things go with Mr Kane, will Chicago use the LAK move of terminating his contract for a "material breach"?
Thing is that "material breach", only comes into play if a player is is under performing compared to his contract value
Right or wrong, Kane is still in his prime, so the team will stand behind him for now.
If he gets convicted and has to serve time, then not sure what's going to happen.
Voynov's situation somewhat of a precedence with his domestic violence case to Kane's sexual assault investigation.

Former Senator trade line acquisition Matt Cullen has signed with a 1yr / $800k contract with the Penguins to be their 4th line centre.
In other news, Matt Cullen is still in the NHL, and has played over 1200 games in the league.

The Habs need scoring, which they get from Semin (at least, on some nights), but they also need size, grit and tenaciousness which aren't in his arsenal at all. He's an addition which could help during the regular season if he decides to really put his heart into playing every night.

I can't make up stuff funnier than what is going on these days. What next?
"Not to be outdone by Toronto and Montreal, the Islanders have announced they've signed Yashin to a one year deal.......and then bought him out."
Actually I'm not sure this is that bad a move for the habs. Their only risk is $1.1 million, which is peanuts for that organization, unlike the Sens. If he flops he goes to the press box for the year.
