The difference between the Drouin situation and Turris is that Turris was negotiating his second contract when he was holding out; Drouin is currently under contract and if Yzerman wants to use precedent he could have the contract tolled to next year (Drouin has to play two more NHL games this year for it to count as a season towards contract fulfillment and UFA status). The precedent: Yashin refusing to play when under contract.

Just noticed the Kindl comments. If that's the case, wouldn't it be better if Cowen was sent down? He's not going to get better by not playing. Bingo could use him and he hasn't played since Dec 29th. He needs to work on the basics regardless

From an article on tsn.ca, a quote from Drouin's agent Allan Walsh (who also represents Hoffman, Cowen, 9MM, Methot, Alex Guptil, Nick Paul and Mark Fraser):
“A few days ago, the Tampa Bay Lightning advised that a trade involving Jonathan was moving closer to completion,” Walsh wrote. “We proposed to Tampa that Jonathan not play in the next few AHL games but continue practicing with the club … Unfortunately, the Tampa Bay Lightning refused this reasonable request, however, Jonathan was not willing to accept this risk.
“In light of the latest developments, it is clearly in both sides’ best interests that the Tampa Bay Lightning trade Jonathan as there is no reason for Jonathan to continue with the Tampa Bay Lightning in any capacity. We will have no further comment as we await the Tampa Bay Lightning to conclude a trade that involves Jonathan.”
It seems that Walsh doesn't realize he isn't all powerful and can decide what the employers of his clients do, how, and when.
I'm glad this was resolved and the guy is finally able to captain at the All-Stars game. The All-Stars game is already kind of a joke, and taking away this guy's chance to be there because the fans voted him in was an outrage.
I'm glad he's going as he makes league minimum ($575k) so the $90k the players get for going to the ASG means more to him than someone making $6M a season.

Another fascinating move today. Detroit put Jakub Kindl of waivers. They tried to trade him for a pick, but would have been required to take salary back.
Kindl is basically Wiercioch. Soft bodied, offensive minded big D that plays small with good advanced stats that fails the eye test.
So in the past three days you have two Cowen and Wiercioich comparables (Gormley and Kindl) get waived with one clearing so far.
Thx for the analysis AO, I didn't know anything about either player to be honest and you filled in the gaps. If they are anything like Cowen then it's good that Sens wanted no part of that act.

Former 1st round pick mega-D prospect Gormley clears waivers because he is too slow, weak, and not quick enough in his thought process for the NHL.
"Fans'" reactions: Murray sucks, Eug is cheap. There was a piece right there for free to fix our D.
Since 2011 Rundblad has played for Ottawa, Phoenix (including Portland) and Chicago.
I had high hopes for Rundblad when he joined the Sens. This highlight reel from Sweden sure showed signs of promise, but I guess he hasn't found his game at the NHL level.
25 years old and already three NHL organizations (soon to be 4?), that's either a player not playing to his potential or an attitude problem.
showed so much potential. shocked it came to this.

Wild re-sign Spurgeon at $5.1875m / 4 years.
I hope Murray is talking to them as that's 4 locked up until 2020 with Dumba, Reilly, and Olifsson still needing new contracts. They are looking to add to their C depth.
If he can pull off a Zibby for Brodin as a base deal, then I'm fine with that. Top 2 shutdown LHD at 22 years old.
