Roster update: The #Sens have acquired forward Mathieu Joseph and a fourth-round draft pick in 2024 in a trade with
@TBLightning
in exchange for forward Nick Paul.
As part of the transaction, the #Sens will retain 44.5% of Paul's remaining 2021-22 salary.
Joseph makes $737,500, is 25 and is an RFA at season's end.
WHAT. THE. ****.
He will be cheaper than Paul because he’s an RFA, he’s younger and been in a winning situation. 6-1 190 18 points in 58 G’s 13 minutes ice time. Sounds a lot like Nick Paul but younger 🤷🏼♂️

Why does TB think Nick Paul is an upgrade then? I know nothing about Joseph, but sounds like a 4th line role player.

The comments from Twitter are just too good and funny
it’s easy to pin every bad Senators trade on Pierre McGuire, but the Hamonic deal is just too terrible not to be him
So we’re cool with paying $3 M for another depth defenseman, but not for Nick Paul? Who’s been here since 2014. Gotcha.
- Hamonic was on waivers earlier this season. He’s only played 24 games in the NHL due to his struggles.
- 25-year-old RHD Phillipe Myers was available on waivers today.
- Hamonic is signed for next year. OTT helped VAN get out of a bad deal whilst giving them a quality asset.

This is the most damning thing on this horrible front office, this is from Twitter
Ottawa, a budget team, spends nearly 30mil on…..Tierney, Sanford, gambrell, gaudette, Zaitsev, hamonic, del zotto, brown and Murray
I get that Melnyk is broke, but this mess is 10000% on Dorion

These are just a few of the responses from that last tweet I posted before this one
Don’t be silly. A teenager in his first hockey pool could fleece Dorian.
Have crunched the numbers and this statement is indeed factual!
@ian_mendes — you or someone should collect the quotes from the entire Vancouver pro hockey community including @Hockey_Robinson gleefully celebrating this fleecing. And it might get u barred for life but read a few to Dorian tomorrow.

The Pierre’s need to fly far far away

Another Vancouver beat writer:
The Hamonic trade might be the best deal the #Canucks have made in a decade. To offload $3 million for a bottom pair defenceman while also adding a 3rd rounder is basically wizardry in today’s NHL.

Travis Hamonic. Yep, that's who we are getting to "improve" our blueline.
From Harmon Dayal beat writer The Athletic Vancouver
Clearing Hamonics 3M cap hit for free would have been a huge win for the Canucks - Getting a third round pick back? That’s a steal
The Pierre’s are Gawd Awful as Melnyk - this is one stupid waste of a draft pick. A 7th woulda been a head scratcher
Hamonic was on waivers in October when this season started

Is it to fill a void for someone else leaving?
absolutely no explanation from the team so far.

I don't think this will get a lot of coverage, so in case you missed it...
"Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews has been suspended two games for cross-checking Buffalo Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin during Sunday's Heritage Classic, NHL Player Safety announced Monday."

Brilliant episode.
Watched it today. Very insightful and great to see an exchange like this from a player and not have a bunch of clichés.
We've often heard that the Sens have a hard time attracting good free agents. We don't have a "Stanley Cup Discount" to bring in good players. Instead we need to overpay role players. You can't win on drafting alone.
the lines that really struck me were when he said the sens were 31st out of 31 teams he wanted to go to, and that players know when they consider coming to ottawa there is the "chaos factor" to expect.

Poop
Senators defenceman Thomas Chabot likely out for season with broken hand
