They can only start negotiations for an extension on Jan 1st. If he doesn't sign by July, he's a UFA.
3-2 for who ever they're playing against. Duchene scores into his own net.

Bad news for Senators today:
Skinner is traded for an OK prospect and a 2nd round pick and I think a 3rd and a 6th round pick with one year left on his contract. That's not a whole heck of a lot for a guy who always scores over 20 Goals and is only 26. He's been a lot more durable too over the last few years.
Bad news is he's going to Buffalo a direct rival and the other bad news is this will no doubt empower other GM's to not offer that big of a package for a certain 2 time Norris winner with 1 year left on his contract. Plus our GM wants to win this season since he traded his first round pick away and the horrid embarrassment of Jack Hughes ending up in Denver with his pick.

Okay, I've got this whole thing figured out. This is how it's going to go down:
1. Melnyk is forced out.
2. Jim Baisille comes in with his $276 million or whatever he was willing to spend on the team in Hamilton before, and buys the Sens.
3. Jim brings Alfie back on board and player development and hockey operations begin promising futures.
4. EK65 signs on long term with the help of Baisille's deep pockets.
5. All is well in Sens land and in 3 years we bring the cup home.
Sleep well everyone.
if it were only this easy, but everything starts at your #1. Without that nothing good is happening for this franchise

Stone is a 7.5-8 million guy. So down the middle is about right for him.
Ceci is a tough one because yeah, he's been bad but arguably he's also been badly misused by Boucher. Could he be better in a role more suited for him? Maybe, but will we ever see that from Boucher? Personally, I wouldn't give him much more than he's making now but if EK65 leaves, then can you lose Ceci as well?
Well they can't tank, that's for sure. I have no earthly idea what Dorian is doing because he works for a delusional jacka**. As for Ceci I guess u gotta keep him even though Boucher is still around and if EK65 leaves. There are so many moving pieces on this checker board, it's checkers because the damn Senators are not playing chess
Was thinking about Ceci again today and the argument that he has been played in the wrong role. If (when) ek65 leaves, ceci will likely be forced to play more minutes than he should, thus not in the best role for him, once again. Maybe it won't play out like this, but I can see how it could. The guy may never get the best role for his game. But, there are lots of guys that would want his problems.

just learned unlike MLB and other leagues on arbitration the dude making the call can pick a number in the middle. So that means I was wrong again.

This from Twitter today:
The Sens proposing 5M for Stone is embarrassing.
Not sure how you look arbitrator in the eyes without saying “sorry, you have to understand, our owner is broke & trying to milk this thing until a land deal closes, obviously Mark is worth 8+... we’ll go in the hall & settle now.”
He's making 9 if those are the 2 figures the arbitrator has to go on. 5 is insulting after u look at his numbers on a putrid team last year. He was a + player on that team, no one else was close to Stone.

I wouldn't pay Stone 9 mil... 6 maybe. Ceci at 6 mil absolutely not. I agree with the 4-4.5
Stone is by far the best player stats wise on last years team he's going to be making over 6 all the way to 8. If Ottawa won't pay it there are plenty of teams who will. Until this ownership leaves this team is sinking.
This Ceci stuff is more disturbing, it shows how a front office can over value a player who is nowhere near what they think of him and then he rewards them by asking for a ridiculous salary. My prediction is the only guy they actually pay is my boy Duchene, and that's just to save face with the ridiculous bunch of stuff they gave up to get him. They better pay Stone (long term contract) and if Ceci wins let him walk.
What's more ridiculous a Trump tweet or Melnyk still owning and ruining this franchise?

Not worth 6 million a year. I do think someone would offer 4.5 - 5 million. However, some of the contracts being signed are ridiculous. Will be interesting to see what he gets.

Years after this guy is gone and the team is owned by someone competent again they'll write scathing stuff about this ownership group and we'll just shake our heads that we knew it all as it was happening. Melnyk is an utter embarrassment and the sad thing is he doesn't know it.

No and I wish it was a possibility. Too bad Bettman doesn't care abput anything this side of the border to do anything about it.
Sens sign Stone to a 1 year $7.35M contract.
